Skimmers hide your pump and plumbing from view. They help reduce pond maintenance by skimming debris from the surface and collecting it in the basket. Using a skimmer also helps prolong the life of your pump by keeping the pump free of debris so the pump doesn't have to work any harder. A skimmer also protects your small fish from being chewed up by ambitious, hardworking pumps.
To install a pond skimmer yourself you will need a good shovel, a level and a cold drink. Dig a hole slightly larger than the dimensions of your skimmer. Dig a trench for your plumbing from your skimmer hole to where ever you plan to have your filter, waterfalls filter or our favorite, the plant bog filter. Place the skimmer in your hole and make sure the unit is level before filling soil back in around the unit. We also have extension tubes available that allows the skimmer to be placed back up to 24 inches from the edge of the pond.
The small skimmer measures 28"long x 18"wide x 20"tall with a 6" wide opening. These units are great for ponds up to 600 square feet and can handle pumps up to 6,000 GPH.
