At Willow Pond Aqua Farms we have many production ponds located a ways from electricity that are often in need of supplemental aeration. Our need for aeration and our desire to move towards sustainable green business practices convinced us that putting up a windmill would be a good choice.
Our windmill pictured here in the right of the photo in the Winter of 2010 has been working great and we use no electricity. Our windmill has been tested by 74 mph winds with no damage!
These windmills are made from heavy duty galvanized steel and will last for 15 years or longer. The windmill only requires 3-5 mph of wind to operate and self brakes at 28 mph. These units have a 72" diameter head with 12 blades and pumps up to 4.5 CFM of air in 15 mph winds. Pumps 2 CFM of air in low winds. Most of the assembly steps have been completed for you so installation is a breeze!
Windmills can be placed up to 1000 feet away from a ponds edge making them ideal for ponds in low areas or surrounded by trees. Although the initial cost may seem high the amount of time and money you'll save over a few short years in electricity costs alone will pay for the windmill.
