Willow Pond Aqua Farms was originally founded to culture black bullheads for the regional food market. After several years of working with a cooperative at Brockport State University we purchased a small horse farm on the outskirts of Canandaigua, New York and started building large ponds to culture black bullheads. A large willow tree that was on the property with percolating water continually flowing at its base inspired our name, Willow Pond Aqua Farms, in 1990.
Even though we produced fish in abundance the market dynamics made us realize that it was going to be a long road to follow. About this time the water gardening craze started to accelerate and we made a few adjustments. It was much easier to grow fish that you did not have to process before they were ready for the market so we started to work with goldfish and Koi. The ponds used to grow bullheads were converted into ornamental fish ponds and a few small greenhouses for aquatic plant production were built. Willow Pond Aqua Farms became, and still is, a local epicenter for people seeking unique aquatic plants and fish.
As it stands now we have over two dozen ponds growing fish, multiple water gardens and displays as well as 4 greenhouses dedicated to the production of aquatic plants, fish and other fun critters. Our focus is on high quality Koi and environmentally friendly approaches to solving your water garden or large pond needs.
We offer the largest selection of water loving plants than anyone around. You’ll find tropical plants you can enjoy year round and beautiful native flowering plants that require hardly any care. Our collection of hardy water lilies, tropical water lilies and lotuses are like no other.
Our selection of Koi fits into everyone’s style. Whether you’re new to Koi or have been a hobbyist for years, you’re sure to find the Koi you are looking for at Willow Pond Aqua Farms. Bring family and friends to enjoy walking the grounds viewing flora and fauna and feeding our Koi while you get the best advice from our well trained staff.
